In the early nineteenth century, the rolling mill was the only method employed to produce stainless pipes and tubes to be used in industrial applications. The rolling process involved lengthy processes. The sheet rolls were then shaped into a circular cross-section by using funnel rolls. The lap welding process was applied to these rolled strips by using the process of forge welding.
Thanks to the advancement of advancement and technology various processes were brought into being for the production of stainless pipes and tubes in India. Nowadays, stainless steel pipes and tubes are made using continuous tube mills that use multitouch tungsten inert gas. The filler metal process, also known as forge welding is not employed in this method.
Stainless Steel Pipe and Tube Manufacturing Process
Tube mill process description:
- Welding and rolling
In the beginning, the stainless steel sheets are then put through several quality checks and are then trimmed along the edges. They are then fed into the milling of tubes by producers of stainless steel pipes from India. The tubes go through the rollers that are required to meet the dimensions. In the tube mill, the strip is gradually transformed into a tubular form. The welded machine fitted is used to parts of the strips by using a TIG welding. The weld scraps and the inside beads are removed instantly through using the Tibo machine. In this manner tubes and pipes that are rolled are created.
- Heating and cleaning phase
The tubes and stainless steel tubes that are produced are cut to lengths that are required in accordance with the demands of the industrial sector. These stainless tubes and pipes are then cleaned to eliminate dirt. Additionally, a heat treatment is applied to the tubes and pipes to eliminate the stress which may result from the formation and welding processes. Heating treatment is provided to the hearth that is continuously rolling furnace. The furnace is equipped with controllers and temperature records. Following the process of heat treatment then the SS pipes and tubes are straightened and then subjected to pickling to remove scales off the surface.
- Cold-drawing process
In some instances, the size required may not be available from the mill itself. In this case, the cold operation process may be used to get the size desired. When drawing cold the pipes or tubes are coated with an oxalic soap solution. The solution functions as a lubricant that reduces friction during cold drawing. In the process of drawing cold, the pipe or tube is drawn on the bench with Die plugs.
- Process of finishing
The drawn-out tube or the ss pipes is then subjected to cleaning or heat treatment, then straightening, and pickling. The mark-making machine inkjet is utilized to mark the tubes or pipes that are finished. The tube or pipe is marked with the grade of material size, dimension, heat number along with the mark of third inspectors before being sent to exporters of stainless steel pipes. The stainless pipes or tubes made will go through a series of tests and quality checks. The process is then followed by appropriate packing and dispatch. There is a variety of applications for stainless steel pipes that these tubes and pipes are employed later on too.
